Hip Hop Wed!! Wale album

So the new Wale album finally came out yesterday. It seems like there have been 10 of these but the mixtapes and all the leaks and everything made this release a little less sweet. As I listened to the album I like it but I think I was expecting more. I had basically heard all the songs on here from either remixes or mixtapes or whatever else. I mean don't get me wrong I am a big fan of Wale and I think his star is bright I just wish there was a bit more left for the pickin is all. All around it is solid and I should remember that most of the songs on here when I heard for the first time I liked a lot so I can't say too many bad things about it. I'm sure another mixtape will come out next week and I will be back on the Wale Express.

Last one of the day...

So I was trolling around the web machine and stumbled upon a little song that made me want to hear more and more. That is a rarity that I really need to hear more of something so much so that I try everything in my power to find out about the band. That band is Oakland based Man/Miracle who have released their single just a little bit ago. I would try to describe it but it is too awesome! just take a listen and thank me later!!!!

Eat More Cake

Eat More Cake have released the official single of of their debut album due out next year. It features Alexis Griffith. It is haunting and beautiful. Their are loads of remixes to accompany it as well so check out the full release to get your hands on those gems.

New Bravery

As the Bravery set to release their new album Dec 1st here is a little preivew of what you can expect.

Bonus - Oldie but a Goodie

Boy Crisis

I featured Boy Crisis in the WKND PLYLST back in June with their track Dressed to Digress. Well they have been busy since then and I just ran across a few more tracks. Get ready to have your ass kicked by music. They are not playing around or maybe they are but either way you need to get moving to this. Full of loud and infectious whips and riffs they are ready to bring you to the party and keep it bouncing. They have gotten comparison to MGMT and the like but I think that is a bit off the mark because if you ask me Boy Crisis is totally different and a bit more fun and crazy! Bounce of the walls!

Boy Crisis - Fountain of Youth HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

Beat!Beat!Beat!

Germany's Beat! Beat! Beat! is gaining serious traction with their single "Fireworks". With its raucous carefree style they have been compared to the Foals and Los Campesinos and Vampire Weekend. I think their music speaks for itself and I also think this sound is all their own. They have a EP out now but it is through a dutch record shop so do what you gotta do.

Bag Raiders new EP

Aussie dance Wunderkinds are at it again with a new EP with a new song and song new remixes. Worth the download if you like thumping bass and rad electro goodness. I gots to get down to Oz!

Bear in Heaven

Bear in Heaven released their sophomore album last month and it got a glowing review all around. I decided to check it out as I was not very familiar with them and I am glad I did. Their soft yet striking songs make for a very nice listen. Psych-pop mixed in with a little bit of ambient background their music evokes cinematic elegance and comparisons. I recommend you buy this album no questions asked. It reminds me of late night antics and turning over trash cans and sitting in a backyard of a friends house where it is cold outside but not cold enough that you need a jacket but a chill is in the air and anarchy and rebelliousness are ruling the air that you breath. Although if you are still in need of a little help then all you need to listen to is You do You. enough said?

William Fitzsimmons remixed!?!?

Everyone's favorite bearded mellow singer songwriter has been remixed. I know that sounds scary and trust me I was scared but somehow this comes across perfect. I am a fan....

The Whigs - new song

The Whigs 2010 release is set to be super sick! Judging from the 2 tracks that have been released off the album I can say that with confidence. Also they are getting rave reviews for their live show as well so check out their site to see if they are coming to a city near you.

Parlour Steps

When a band crosses my radar a handful of times and I realize I have had a couple of their songs even after I download the same songs again and then double check my itunes it is probably a sign that I like that band. So it is with Parlour Steps out of Vancouver. They make, what they call, to be Thought Rock. Meaning that this is what you should be listening to when thinking or I guess studying or advancing your mind through the thinking process. Not a bad way to market your music I guess. I would just call it pop infused indie rock that makes you feel good and gives you a bit of bounce in your step.

Rubik

Finnish indie band Rubik fancies themselves a bit of everything from the indie scene and their music kind of proves that. Each song seems to be a little different in terms of style than their last but seems to be consistent and true to the indie banner. They released a new album in Sept and it is getting a little bit of buzz. The best track off of the album is Wasteland which kind of reminds me a bit of M83 meets Arcade Fire meets Snow Patrol. Whatever. I like Rubik but I don't like the urge to write Cube every time after I type their name!

WKND PLYLST!! Ripe for the pickin

Another weekend another PLYLST! I wish I was traveling this weekend but I am stuck in LA. Not that that will be a bad thing cause I am going to the Staples Center saturday night to catch a game and that should be rad. I feel like I need to get out to see some dj's. That has been missing from my life as of late or throwing a huge party and just getting crazy. We'll see if that happens...Oh well whatever you do this weekend have a super Rad time. Make sure to share the PLYLST with everybody you know including your mom! PARTY!!

Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors in NYC

Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors are playing a show up in NYC next week ( Monday Nov 9th) to be exact. Drew and his wife Ellie create wonderfully crafted songs. It is basically what I think Pete Yorn was wishing that Scarlett Johansson would've done with him but alas they are not all a love connection. That being said I know that Drew always puts on a good show so I encourage all my NYC readers to go out and support live music! Tell them I sent you and you will probably be recieved with open arms.

For Fans of Damien Rice, Tom Waits, Josh Rouse, Pete Yorn, Ingrid Michaelson

Monday Nov. 9th

Great Soundtrack 8

Singles the 1992 Cameron Crowe movie about...well...singles! As usual all Cameron Crowe movies are heavily focused around the music aspect. I'm sure it is only a matter of time before other Crowe films will be talked about here. Singles was a generation defining movie focusing on the Gen X crowd and the absence of goals or the drive to achieve mass amounts of wealth and possessions but rather the realization that life is hard and relationships don't come easy. The soundtrack is a perfect snapshot into a style of music that really changed a great deal of the way people thought about music. This soundtrack in particular really is like a slice of history in music form. Just listening to some of the tracks, you are instantly transformed into the baggy pants wearing , flannel open shirt, long hair rebellious youth, hell bent on changing the system. And of course this is the movie that gave Eddie Vedder is huge film career. Whether you were a fan of 90's rock or not you cannot argue that this soundtrack and movie are a defining moment in american culture.

The Smashing Pumpkins - Drown
Jimi Hendrix - May This be Love
Mudhoney - Overblown
Lovemongers - Battle of Evermore
Soundgarden - Birth Ritual
Paul Westerberg - Dyslexic Heart

more Baby Monster

got these 2 new remixes in the inbox yesterday.

their new official single drops next week.

Bluejuice

Aussie band Bluejuice came across my radar a long time ago when I saw their video of competitive jump roping and I loved it. Then I forgot about them until yesterday for some reason. They remind me a lot of OK GO with this super energy to their music and the attitude of rock can be cool and fun. They seem like they are having a great time and want you to come join in on the craziness of it all! nice. Their songs are insanely catchy and may be too much pop rock for you to handle but I promise you this will get stuck in your head! Love it or Hate it I think Bluejuice has got a chance of being around for quite sometime.
